Member Spotlight: Rebecca at F45 Training Noosa, Australia

Franchise | March 2025

F45 Training gym members know and understand the physical and mental health benefits of an F45 workout. It’s something they feel, even after the very first workout. And it’s what keeps them coming back class after class.

In this Functional Unleashed video you’ll meet Rebecca—a medically retired police officer who has battled depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Rebecca tells the story of how she has reaped the benefits of her F45 membership.

Rebecca spent fourteen years with the New South Wales Police but retired early because of stress related to the job. As a police officer, she had been heavily involved with F45, so when she and her family moved to the Australian coast and she took greater control of her health, she knew the one thing she would have to include in her daily routine—and that was F45. Now Rebecca is an integral part of the gym, and the gym is an integral part of her life.

In fact, she calls the other members of the F45 gym her “fit family” because of the camaraderie and the sense of community she feels when she walks in the door.

Rebecca has now made F45 part of her daily routine, and she says that her doctor, her psychiatrist, and her psychologist can all see the benefits that she gains from F45. What’s more, they can tell when she hasn’t been keeping up with her routines, and they gently nudge her to stay on track.

They all understand the benefits that physical exercise has on mental health. These benefits have long been understood by researchers as well.

For instance, an article published by the National Institute of Health reports that “exercise in general is associated with a better mood and improved quality of life.”¹

And an article in the British Journal of Sports Medicine examined the effect of exercise on mental health. Researchers found that physical activity “was effective at reducing depression and anxiety across all clinical conditions.” It goes on to say that the findings [of the study] showed that moderate-intensity and high-intensity physical activity modes were more effective than lower intensities. Physical activity improves depression through various neuro molecular mechanisms including increased expression of neurotrophic factors, increased availability of serotonin and norepinephrine, regulation of hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis activity and reduced systemic inflammation. Therefore, low-intensity physical activity may be insufficient for stimulating the neurological and hormonal changes that are associated with larger improvements in depression and anxiety.²

F45 workouts are high intensity and will get your blood pumping. This is why so many people have stated they feel the immense mental health benefits of these workouts.

As Rebecca states, the 45 minutes she spends just for herself leaves her with increased endorphins and energy and a feeling of renewal. She is then able to go on with her day and do what she needs to do as a wife and mom.

This is just one of the many benefits of an F45 workout some members have experienced. Rebecca encourages anyone wavering to just walk in the door and try because “it’s important to look after yourself and your mental health.”
